There are two reasons now is the time to buy. First, the Consumer Electronics Show just ended and slick new television models are set to hit the floors of Best Buy, hhgregg, and other major retailers. This means stores are anxious to get rid of older models, so they’ve slashed prices accordingly. Second, many people want a high-quality television to watch the big game and are in the market for a new set. Retailers naturally want this extra business and the result is a plethora of amazing deals, both online and off.

Nervous about selling your old gadgets on Cragislist? Your fears aren’t unfounded. According to authorities, Craigslist robberies are on the rise.

"It's happening all over the country," said Milwaukee police officer Lisa Staffold. "The media has deemed it 'robbery by appointment' because you're posting ads, you're selling your iPhones, your iPads, your vehicles, and when you go to a meeting location, you're being robbed.”

However, there is a solution – conduct your Craigslist transactions at the local police station! The Milwaukee PD encourages citizens to sell their goods at the safest place in town, and officers in other cities are bound to follow suit.

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) wrapped up last week, and one of the cooler gadgets featured at the three-day event was Samsung’s Transparent Smart Window. The slick device, which won a 2012 CES Innovation Award, is basically a transparent LCD panel (though visible only from the inside) which acts as a large computer. Users can check their Twitter account, read email, watch TV, or look up the weather, among other things. The device even boasts a virtual blinds feature! How very Minority Report!

In a recent video, G-Form, a company dedicated to building “innovative protective and shock-absorbing products,” places an iPad in one of their newest products, the Extreme Sleeve for iPad, and drops it from a weather balloon 100,000 feet in the air. G-Form hoped to prove the Extreme Sleeve would protect the iPad from major damage and, if the video below is to be believed, it seems they made their point. After plummeting from the edge of space, the iPad emerged from its sleeve with nary a dent or scratch. Check it out.

Aakash means "sky" and it's the name of a new tablet being offered to students in India. However, the price isn't sky high. At only $35 each, the Indian government is expected to buy eight to 10 million units of the device by March 31, 2012. Will the general public find them helpful as well? 

"The thing with cheap tablets is most of them turn out to be unusable," says Rajat Agrawal, executive editor at Technology Reviewers BGR India. "They don't have a very good touch screen, and they are usually very slow."

Amazon announced today that 11,000 libraries around the nation are now able to loan e-books to Amazon Kindles thanks to a partnership between the online retailer and OverDrive.com, a company that provides e-books to libraries around the world.

Sony demoed the PlayStation Vita at the Tokyo Games Show yesterday, giving gamers a new look at the highly-anticipated handheld console.

Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, showed off the slick device which features a five-inch multi-touch screen, front and rear facing cameras, and a pad built for “touch, grab, trace, push and pull” finger motions. The console is also able to play videos and music and connect to social networking sites.

Reading Rainbow, the popular children’s television show that encouraged kids to read books, was shut down in 2006, much to pretty much everyone’s dismay. It had aired for over 20 years on PBS, but the network’s financial troubles were the nail in the Rainbow’s coffin. Now, fans of the show will be delighted to hear that it’s coming back – although, not on television.

Reading Rainbow will make its return to the media world via iPad app.

Now, instead of such rash measures as that, you can simply use Matt Richardson’s hacked remote control, which mutes your television for 30 seconds any time certain celebrity’s names are mentioned.

Richardson works from home in Brooklyn, NY, and likes to keep the TV on to stay informed, but became irritated upon constantly hearing about certain public figures.
