New Case Can Turn Your iPhone Into a Visa Credit Card

So, we already know that iPhone owners can use their phones to track girlfriends' menstrual cycles, treat acne, or rate their skills in the sack, but soon they'll be able to ditch their wallets and make contactless transactions thanks to DeviceFidelity's new In2Pay iPhone case.

The case, which contains an In2Pay microSD card, will allow users to wave their phone over any Visa PayWave terminal to pay for goods and services. The technology also comes with a mobile payment app that is supposed to protect customers from identity theft. Visa PayWave terminals can be found at approximately 32,000 retailers and Visa has plans to add many more.

So far, there's no word on when the case will be available to the public or how much it will cost. Trials are set to begin this quarter.

Second iPhone 4G Prototype Leaked

Oops, they did it again. Apple appears to have lost yet another iPhone 4G prototype.

Photos of the prototype have appeared on Taoviet.vn, a Vietnamese forum. There is little information about where the iPhone came from, but the individual who submitted the link to MacRumors reported that a Vietnamese businessman bought the prototype in the United States. Unlike the first prototype, the second model includes a lack of visible screws, the use of Micro-SIM cards, a new chip, and a 16GB designation. The second prototype also turns on, but appears to run on a testing software called Inferno rather than the iPhone OS.

Here are a few photos and a video of the second prototype.

Mobile is a Battlefield: Android OS Gains on Apple OS

First quarter U.S. sales of smartphones using Google’s Android OS outsold Apple’s iPhone for the very first time.

While Blackberries still hold the top slot, Android OS phones (most notably Motorola’s Droid) captured 28% of unit sales in the first three months of 2010. iPhone only captures 21% (possibly diluted by the launch of the iPad). This report came from the NPD Group.

"As in the past, carrier distribution and promotion have played a crucial role in determining smartphone market share," said Ross Rubin, executive director of industry analysis for NPD, in a statement. "In order to compete with the iPhone, Verizon Wireless has expanded its buy-one-get-one offer beyond RIM devices [Blackberry] to now include all of their smartphones."

Currently, AT&T is still the only provider of the iPhone, but their exclusive contract with Apple ends in 2012.

Overall, PC World ranks Android OS in 4th place after Symbian OS (Nokia), Blackberry OS and Apple OS.
