I Am Vampire iPhone App

Vampires are all the rage these days, thanks to the Twilight movies and HBO's True Blood series. Now you too can be a vampire, or at least look like one, thanks to the I Am Vampire iphone app!

It's simple. Just take a photo of yourself, use the app's effect to make your eyes look vampire-y (topaz, crimson, or black), and then add fangs and a little "sparkle" for that Edward Cullen, definitely not gay, look. You can even share the pic via Facebook or Twitter. All this for only 0.99. Fabulous!

PS: The developers of I Am Vampire want you to know that you shouldn't consume blood after using this app.

Want a Prediction From a Psychic Octopus? There's an App For That!

Though Paul the Octopus will no longer make psychic predictions (handlers announced his "retirement" last week), a new iPhone app called "Ask the Octopus" has captured his prognosticating spirit.

For those not in the know, Paul is a psychic German octopus who correctly predicted the results of all of Germany's games in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He also correctly called Spain as the winner. Paul makes his predictions based on food trays lowered into his tank with flags or names written on them. Some unhappy soccer fans wished death upon poor Paul, but Spain and Russia have offered him a new home in hopes of utilizing his unusual talent. Paul's handlers say he'll stay put in Germany.

In "Ask the Octopus," users think of a question they wish to ask, for example, will Lindsay Lohan serve her full jail sentence, and then enter possible answers. Paul will then summon all of his psychic powers and float down to make a selection.

The app is not officially affiliated with Paul, but it's all in good fun and we're sure the octopus would approve. Get it today for only 0.99!

Date Check iPhone App Lets Women Stalk You

Some may call them smart, others may call them crazy, but some ladies out there won't date a guy unless they've conducted a thorough background check on him. This was virtually impossible before the invention of the Internet, but thanks to the wonders of modern technology viligant women can "investigate" dates from the comfort and convenience of their iPhone.

The Date Check iPhone app is targeted towards women, but either sex can technically use it. A user simply needs a potential date's name, email address, and phone number and Date Check will confirm the person's address, report on his criminal history, pull up a map of his neighborhood, determine who he lives with, share his educational history, and find any active social networking accounts. That's a bit creepy. Oh, and girls can rate their experience with you and Date Check will "log it for future use." Whatever that means.

The app is free so who knows how accurate or extensive the information it finds really is, but Date Check is bound to be a great tool for any competent stalker.

Australian Lawmaker Wants to Ban Gambling Apps

Australian senator Nick Xenophon is known for his anti-gambling views, so it should come as no surprise that the lawmaker takes offense to gambling apps offered for the iPhone.

Xenophon says he recently became aware of apps that allow users to play simulated slot machines and that such apps, recommended for users age 12 and up, are a danger to children. Why? In Xenophon's opinion, gambling applications teach children that gambling is a legitmate way to earn money and set kids up for future financial ruin.

"The use of money, albeit fantasy, drills home a false impression that poker machines can be a source of money or income," Senator Xenophon said. "...This is a training application for kids to lose real money when they turn 18."

Many of the apps in question are associated with major casinos and can be downloaded for free. Critics argue the apps are harmless as there is no real money involved.

What do you think? Are the gambling apps harmless fun or do they encourage future gambling problems?

Code Red: For Men Who Need to Know About Their Woman's Flow

Instead of just going with the flow, husbands and boyfriends everywhere are downloading Code Red, an app that lets men keep track of, and react to, their lady's menstrual cycle. The app is also available on the new iPad. How appropriate.

Described on iTunes as men's best defense against the monthly Her-ricane, Code Red comes with a series of five alerts based on the stages of a woman's cycle: Smooth Sailing, Horny, PMS, Ovulation, and Code Red. The alerts also come with some helpful hints. For example, telling a lady her hair looks sexy, not cute, when she's feeling pre-menstrual. To activate the app, a man just needs to enter the first day of his lover's cycle and wait for the reminders to come.

Sorry guys, Code Red isn't free like many iPhone apps. You'll have to shell out $1.99 to keep up with your woman's monthly visitor. Bloody hell!
