Green Apps for Earth Day

Earth Day is right around the corner (April 22nd), and iPhone owners can celebrate this important day by taking advantage of one the smart phone’s 50 green apps. Here are a few food-oriented applications that caught our attention:

  • A must for foodies, Green Sushi Selector is a 0.99 cent app that lets users research the fish found in just about any piece of sushi. Here, environmentally-conscious consumers can learn whether or not the farming or capture of the fish is harmful to the environment as well as pinpoint any potential health risks. Users can also search for fish by their English or Japanese names for quick and easy browsing.
  • Vegetarians everywhere are sure to appreciate VegOut, a handy app that helps vegetarians find local restaurants that meet their dietary preferences. The app is a terrific tool in simplifying what can be a long and trying search and is even available overseas! The app normally sells for $4.99, but is on sale for $2.99 at the time of this posting.
  • Offered by the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Seafood Watch helps consumers make sustainable seafood choices by providing up-to-date recommendations and featuring the best seafood in a user’s area. Bonus: the app is free!

Happy Earth Day everyone!
