GutCheck Wins Best of Show at Demo

At DEMO’s Spring 2011 conference 53 start ups gave presentation.  GutCheck stood out the most, winning the People’s Choice and award and taking home $1million.  They are a do-it-yourself qualitative research company.

Conference attendees voted the company best in show.  The company's mission is to make focus groups more accessible and affordable.

Their customers can draw from a pool of five million people for targeted questions. Respondents are then interviewed in the traditional question and answer format. Transcripts of the interviews can then be stored and accessed by co-workers.

DEMO’s focus was on apps for the mobile and social sector.  The startups ranged from social media management to news curation and group communication.

It appears that GutCheck could be the next big idea though. They are poised to generate revenue, possibly following Groupon’s success.  They have a low price point, at $40.00 per thirty minute interview; it is affordable for the smallest businesses. 

GutCheck had raised $2million in capital prior to attending Demo. With their win, they receive $1 million in free advertising from IDG publications.

Other startups recognized at the conference were a Webcam Social Shopper by Zugara, Nimble, ecoATM, Stratosphere by V3 and Manilla. All of them were acknowledged for their ideas spanning reality e-commerce and social CRM to a drop-in desktop appliance.
