Men's Health Ranks America's "Most Socially Networked" Cities

Where do you think America's most socially networked cities are located? California? New York? Florida? Men's Health recently sought the answer to this question and the results may surprise you.

Men’s Health evaluated the following data to determine which cities are the most socially networked: the number of Facebook and LinkedIn users per capita; overall Twitter usage; traffic generated by the major social networks, including Myspace, Friendster, Reddit, and Digg; and the percentage of households that visit chat rooms and blogs.

America’s most socially networked cities don’t come from any one region. Though one might expect California cities to dominate the list (after all, that’s where many social networking sites are headquartered), only one Calfornia city made the top ten and three actually made it to the bottom of the list. While Minnesota and Utah don’t seem like bastions of socially networking, a city from each state cracked the top ten.

The top ten most socially networked cities are (in order of most networked) Washington, DC; Atlanta, GA; Denver, CO; Minneapolis, MN; Seattle, WA; San Francisco, CA; Orlando, FL; Austin, TX; Boston, MA; and Salt Lake City, UT.

The nation’s least socially networked cities include Billings, MT; Fort Wayne, IN; Bridgeport, CT; Detroit, MI; Fresno, CA; Bakersfield, CA; Lubbock, TX; Stockton, CA; Laredo, TX; and El Paso, TX.

Here's the full list of Men's Health rankings as well as each city's letter grade in terms of social connectivity. Did your hometown make the list?
