Turn Your iPhone, iPad Into a Dictation Device

Need to dictate on the go? You’re in luck! Philips Consumer Electronics today announced a new app that can turn an iPhone or iPad into “a wireless digital dictation recorder.”

The new app is simple. Users dictate in any location and then upload files to a web server using 3G or WIFI connections. Transcriptionists then receive the recorded files via email or network file and transcribe the notes as necessary.

“This new app provides users with the ability to dictate from any environment and send the recording to a transcriptionist without having to carry multiple devices - making everyone's life simpler,” said Thomas Brauner, Senior Director and Category Leader at Philips Speech Processing.

However, that’s not all the new Philips recorder app does. The recording software also allows users to assign priorities, specifying which notes should be transcribed first, and includes file-based encryption to provide users with safety and security. According to a report on GeekWithLaptop.com, the Philips software will also include on-device editing, a feature allowing users to remove pauses or blocks of text that don’t need transcribing, as well as a quick-start function that allows users to start or stop recording by simply shaking their iPhone or iPad.

Philip’s new digital dictation recorder app will be available on iTunes later this month, though there is so far no word on how much the app will cost or if it will cost anything at all.

Is the upcoming app something you plan to use?
