Lady Gaga Album Demand Crashes Amazon Servers

"Born This Way" crashes Amazon servers

Amazon.com made a landmark decision yesterday, choosing to sell Lady Gaga’s new album Born This Way for just 99 cents. The deal was offered for a digital download of the new album, but fans who tried to order it had some trouble, and may have used their “Telephone” to call in to customer service.

Amazon spokeswoman Sally Fouts said that Amazon experienced a high volume of traffic that caused significant delays for those downloading the album – echoing what had already been posted on the album’s product page on Amazon.com. She said that customers who ordered the MP3 version of “Born This Way” on Monday will still receive it for the 99-cent price tag.

By early evening last night, attempts to buy the album on Amazon and use its new server-based storage system went on without a hitch, according to Yahoo.com. The album appeared instantly on Amazon Cloud Drive and could be streamed right away, and downloaded in a few minutes to a computer.

Customer reviews gave the album an average of three out of five stars. The regular price for the MP3 version of the album is $6.99, and if you’d prefer the CD or LP, it will be $12.99 or $14.99, respectively.
