Netflix Launches “Just for Kids” Program

Netflix is launching a new program to make it easier for kids and their families to find child-friendly shows and movies on the streaming service. The new program, called “Just for Kids” will help users find content for children 12 years old and younger – including favorite characters like SpongeBob Squarepants, Dora the Explorer, Phineas and Ferb, and the Sesame Street characters.

The content will also be presented based on genres such as superheroes, princesses, dinosaurs, and “girl power.”

The program comes after Netflix used ratings and reviews from Common Sense Media and found that almost half of its 25 million members have instantly watched at least two movies or shows for kids in the last 90 days.

“Kids discover and categorize movies and TV shows differently than adults,” says Todd Yellin, Netflix’s Vice President of Product Innovation. “Just as we have revolutionized the way people find the movies and shows they want to watch when and how they want to, we’re making it easier for kids and parents alike to have the best possible Netflix experience.”

“Just for Kids” is currently only available for use on the Netflix website, but the company says similar functionality will roll out over the next year for the Wii, iPad, Xbox, Playstation, and other devices.
