Miramax Signs Multi-Year Agreement with Netflix

Netflix signs multi-year agreement with Miramax

If you’ve been hankering to rewatch such classics like Pulp Fiction, Shakespeare in Love, The English Patient, Good Will Hunting, and more, you’re in luck – Miramax has announced a multi-year agreement that has been made with Netflix. Under the new agreement, Netflix users will be able to instantly watch some of their favorite motion pictures from the Miramax catalog.

Beginning in June, Netflix will add several hundred Miramax films to its instant-watching selections. The movies will be able to be watched on multiple platforms – TV, tablet, computer, or mobile phone. Financial terms of the agreement have not been reported.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said, “Netflix is thrilled to enter into this deal with the new team at Miramax. Existing relationships with management and a shared affinity for these great films make this an important deal for both companies and for our members, who will enjoy instantly watching movies from one of the truly great film libraries for many years to come.”

Through this new partnership, the Netflix library gains a variety of films, which collectively have 284 Academy Award nominations – across 83 films, with 68 wins including a few Best Picture winners.

“This agreement is an important first step in our digital strategy,” said Mike Land, CEO of Miramax. “Netflix has always been a trailblazer, with a tremendous track record of innovation and quality customer service. We’re thrilled to now be in business with them as we build and revitalize the proud Miramax brand.”
